People easily believe on something that agrees with their belief… even if it was found to be a hoax or a satire story, even if it doesn’t have any credible sources, even if the one who wrote it is unknown, and even if it completely does not make any sense.
But if something disagree with their beliefs, libraries will be turned upside down to find anything that will support their disagreement, sources will be closely examined, the credibility of the authors will be questioned, and the story itself will be scrutinized under a microscopic skepticism even with compelling evidences.
In other words, selective skepticism is akin to cognitive dissonance!
I know a lot of people like that. Once in a while I am guilty, but rarely.
