Why do Filipinos always feel that they were cheated? Why can’t Filipinos accept defeat with grace in a sportsman’s fashion? Why do Filipinos always assume that they won the election, the competition, and a boxing bout? Why are Filipinos “pikon” (sore losers) and usually resort to childish retorts of insults to those who defeated them?
The Filipinos are slowly adopting a culture which I see as somewhat unlikable… The “Dinaya” mentality or the perception of being cheated.
One excellent example is the manner by which most politicians react when they lose their bid to “power”… They often surmise that they were cheated during the elections.
There was also a case where a student complained that she was cheated out of becoming a valedictorian. And in almost every competition where Filipinos participated and lost the game, Pinoys often have this assumption that they were cheated. The recent Pacquiao-Mayweather bout is another case where majority of Filipinos felt that Mayweather cheated to win the game…
